Facility Services and Mechanical Servicing Department
Both departments aim to equip students with technical skills, and provide a vocational training curriculum leading to the award of the ITE Skills Certificate (ISC) in Facility Services or ITE Skills Certificate (ISC) Mechanical Servicing. In addition to training in laboratories and work shops, we strive to make learning authentic by bringing students on learning journeys, and arranging work attachments to enable students to gain real-work experiences.
In lower secondary, students take four taster modules which are aimed at providing them with the foundation of basic technical skills. They learn how to use common tools found in a typical workshop.
In upper secondary, students may opt to continue with either the Facility Services or Mechanical Servicing course to graduate at the end of Secondary Four with an ISC in their chosen course.
Hospitality Services and Retail Services Department
Both departments provide students with a skills-based and practice-oriented curriculum leading to the award of the ITE Skills Certificate (ISC) in Hospitality or ITE Skills Certificate (ISC) Retail Services. We strive towards providing authentic learning for our students where besides training in classrooms, laboratories and specialized facilities, learning journeys and work attachments are also integrated in the ISC curriculum to engage students in more real-work experiences.
In lower secondary, students take four taster modules. These are designed to provide students with opportunities to learn basic food preparation skills and execute simple recipes, learn basic food and beverage service skills, as well as customer service skills in real-world simulated training rooms and kitchens.
In upper secondary, students may opt to continue with either the Hospitality Services or Retail Services course to graduate at the end of Secondary Four with an ISC in their chosen course.
The vocational education curriculum provides students with industry skills training leading to the award of the ITE Skills Certificate in one of four trades: Facility Services, Mechanical Servicing, Hospitality Services, and Retail Services. Upon completion of four years of studies at Spectra Secondary School, students will graduate with dual certificates: N-level Certificate, and ITE Skills Certificate. These qualifications would enable students to pursue a wide range of Nitec courses in ITE. The ISC is also recognized by industries for admitting students with relevant qualifications into the workforce.
Industry Experiential Programme for Students
As part of the fulfillment of the ITE Skills Certificate (ISC) course requirements, students are required to participate in an Industry Experiential Programme in Secondary 3. Depending on the nature of the ISC course offered, students may be assigned to participate in a 4-week work attachment programme arranged by the school with an industry partner or they could be provided with a series of workplace-related enrichment electives.

At Spectra, our common belief is ‘it takes a village to raise a child’ and that the students will be a ‘part of an active, positive community with parents, teachers and children, and together with the community, the school will be making a meaningful difference in the lives of our students and groom them for a life beyond the village’.
With this in mind together with the focus of providing our students with hands-on learning in authentic learning spaces, we have sought to work with partners to collaborate with us to provide equipment, sponsor room setups, and provide work attachment places and so on.
