The Mathematics department aims to equip our students with strong foundation in numeracy skills that will serve them well in their lives beyond Spectra. To this end we develop a student-centric curriculum based on the Ministry of Education Singapore, N(T) Level Mathematics Syllabus, leveraging on formative assessment at the heart of self-directed and collaborative learning.
Our goal is to let students take charge of their learning by ‘flipping’ the classroom. First, students will watch on-line lessons at home. Then in the classroom, teachers facilitate their learning as they attempt exercises to test their understanding concepts, and also collaborate with their classmates to deepen their understanding.
Self-directed and Self-regulated Learning. By providing structures and readily available learning video clips online, students will in the long run cultivate self-directedness and self-regulation in learning – both being critical 21st century competencies. Here in Spectra, we strive to support our students in learning at their own pace and seeing the immediate relevance of mathematics in real life.
